Ipod Classic not syncing on Itunes

My Ipod classic is showing up in itunes but when I use the help icon in itunesit shows in device sync test that my ipod is not found. Therefore I can't sync any new purchases to my ipod. How can I resolve this? Will someone be able to help me if I go into a store? Thanks for any assistance anyone can help me on this issue.
