Isn't there any Word type program that comes with a new Mac that allows you to print the document? The only thing I can find is Pages but it doesn't print?

Too vague. What is your printer and is it setup and added properly?
Pages is http://www.apple.com/support/pages which also links to Pages Community
My printer is a Brother laser but that isn't the problem. I can't find a Print command with the Pages program.
And your Brother was added in Printer setup control panel? And your have ML; you have the current supported driver for Brother and it WORKS in other apps.

Did you pay for that version of Pages? The free Demo version may have Printing turned off (and that's why it's not the full version).
Regular Pages prints just fine. Print is at the bottom of the File Menu, like always.
The full version of Pages is only US$19.99 at the MacApp Store.
Try TextEdit (Applications folder). It can print simple Word files.
A pretty good (and free) variation on Microsoft Office (including Word) is LibreOffice, which you can get here. You can open, edit, and print MS Word documents.
