    Hi,

It is not clear why this seems to change when nothing about the iMessages set up seems to have changed.

I have read a recent post that suggests that the Bonjour account also needs to be Enabled.

It may not be the actual enabling of the Bonjour Account that is the thing that needs to be done but the fact that doing so Writes to the com.apple.IMagent.plist that is involved with logging in any account in Messages.

    Hi,

OPen a Finder window and use the Go Menu > Go to Folder and enter the following:-

~/Library/Preferences  (Copy and Paste to the Dialogue box).

In the Preferences folder find the com.apple.imagent.plist plus both com.apple.imservice.imessages.plist and com.apple.imessages.bag.plist and drag them to the Trash.

    Restart Messages.

    Hummm,

Can you try a PRAM reset ?

    Shut down the computer.

Restart it holding down Apple/CMD ( or ⌘)+ALT( ⌥)+P+R Keys until you have heard three Start Up Bongs.

The same thing happened to me, it turned out I wasn't signed in to my iMessage account.

What you should do is on the left side (Where all your recent messages appear) choose any message and double-click it. When I did this it said I wasn't signed in, maybe you might have the same issue, try it out!

I have just solved the same issue by checking the account. It had somehow tried to default to a Google Talk account and logged out of my AppleID account.
