troubleshoot Logic X blank green window

Has anyone seen a medium sized green window show up when opening Logic X for the first time that blocks even quitting the App? I was able to download all that my Logic 9 Pro installation, but even after running all disk and OS utilities, I get nowhere... I think I need a new boot drive w/clean OS, but am worried I can't re-download X to a new boot drive!
