Help with updating 8gb iPhone 4 to iOS 7?

I'm down to the bare bones on my iPhone. I took all of my videos and pictures off, deleted as many apps as I could, and I have no music on it, and I STILL don't have nearly enough space to update to iOS 7. Is there any way to updating to ios7 without defeating the purpose of an iPhone? I shouldn't have to choose between having the new iOS and having any apps or pictures. What to do....
