Q: Disable cellular data for specific apps on iOS 7

I'm running iOS 7 on an iPhone 4S. In the Cellular menu under Settings, I can supposedly turn off the use of cellular data for specific apps. I tried turning off a number of them, however, when I exit and re-enter the Cellular menu, all apps are turned back on to "enable". Why is this happening? I've tried turning off my phone, turning it back on and I have tried doing a hard reset (power and home button).

My phone has been doing this for about a week or so now.  I have done a back up twice now and restored and neither has corrected the problem with my cellular data staying on but not being able to be used.  I decided to erase my phone and set it up like a "new" phone and my cellular data is ok now as far as i can tell.  I don't have all the options i had before.  Before I had app store, maps, stocks etc.  But now that i have re set up my phone i only have maps and facetime but both work now.  So, i am going to try to erase/restore once i get home and i'll update this to let y'all know .

Most apps only get added to the "USE MOBILE DATA FOR:" list under Settings>Mobile after the first attempt to use them with a mobile data connection. So with a freshly initialised iPhone there's hardly any apps in the list. I didn't have YouTube in mine for example as I'd only ever used it with WiFi, but when I switched off WiFi, launched it and started to play a video it then appeared in the list.

I am having same problem.  I restore it to factory and everything was OK and updated to latest version and worked fine for a week or so, but now problem happened again. It seems that after updating to 7.0.4 version this problem is happening again and again.

    I am using Iphone 4s

I am having the same problem.  We have 3 new iphones 4s (I.O.S 7.0.4).  One iphone has lots of apps and this started about a month ago.  The second iphone has 2 or 3 extra apps (intsgram, facebook, subway surfer) and it started today.  The 3rd iphone does not have the problem YET, but I expect it to happen.  The worse part is not that data is turned on, it's that the app thinks data is turned off so when we are out of wi-fi, we can't access data!  I have made a bug report to apple from multiple email addresses.  I suggest everyone that has the problem make a bug report as well.  I made the bug report here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

Hi, I maybe just found out a workaroud for this mess.

This is just my test on my iPhone 4S 32GB iOS 7.0.4. I can't make any guarantee for others.

I've been in the same boat as you guys for weeks now. I've been resetting, restoring form backup even make new and the problem still presist after some time. I've been closely analyzing the cause of this and I think to have found the main problem which trigger the problem; It's because i have used the 'Reset All Settings' option.

I think after the reset, the iPhone clears all the registered apps' cache in the cellular tab settings. I have tested this theory of mine and it actually worked (for me):

    1. Delete an app (I deleted YouTube) to clear the cache
    2. Redownload/reinstall back the app
    3. Open the app and the "Cellular Data is Turned Off for *AppName*" >> choose settings
    4. It will redirect to the cellular settings >> the knob should now be in "OFF" state >> enable it back ON
    5. Go to the app again and test the cellular connection; it should act normal behaviour again
    6. Now the toggles in the cellular settings should also behave normally

Yes it's quite a hassle but at least I don't have to restore as new phone anymore which is worse.

I've lost all my text messages as it's the only thing i cannot backup to cloud.

Just to make sure; be careful not to reset anything from the settings app again. I've been problem free for several days with this method. I'll be posting if anything occurs.

**I have a method of reinstalling everything back in bulk without deleting every single app but I don't know if I should post about another software on this thread.

Actually Tetido's solutiin worked for me with the downloaded apps, but what about the native apps such as email. Email consumes lots of cellular data and I can't turn it off :s

About that native apps, I am still searching for solution on my wife's iPhone 4S.

Because my 4S didn't have problems with native apps so I didn't realized it sooner until my wife complains about her problem where native apps also cannot be turned off/on in the cellular settings.

Guess I'm having no luck on finding the solution for the stock apps. I've just restored my wife's iPhone anew to make the behavior go away.

Gotta sacrifice the messages rather than sacrifice money on this cellular data bug, :/

If Apple doesn't fix this in the next update, that would mean that theydont care more about other versions rather than 5,5s. Maybe if we go back to the previous version of 7.0.4???

How can we go back? Apple didn't sign the firmware anymore. There's no option to downgrade firmware for us. We'll just have to hope they'll fix it in iOS 7.1 later.
