Wow, Windows 2000 is now thirteen years old! Your iPhone wants to communicate with at least iTunes 10 (if not the current iTunes 11), which are no more than one year old.

I suspect this is an impossible task. After all, 2000 was seven years before the first iPhone came out! The current iPhone is the seventh one.

The only thing I could suggest is go to http://www.apple.com/itunes and try to download as current a version as you can. It needs to be at least iTunes 10.

Yeah, wow :-) and I'm, like, a software professional.

I've installed iTunes v7.3.2, the last version which supported win2000.. Just need the USB driver so the phone will talk to the USB port.

The real issue is the phone apparently wont purge mail and messages until its synced with iTunes; I can't install iTunes at work because of security issues, and now I find the phone won't talk to my home computer!

I have to buy a computer because I bought a phone? How stupid is this?

As a software professional, I assume you realize the importance of keeping all your devices at somewhere near the same level of currency. You said iTunes 7.3.2 is the latest version supporting Win2000. Well, the current version is 11.1. So a lot of years have elapsed between your version and what's current.

By the way, your iPhone 4 running iOS 6 (although current is iOS 7.0.2) can do a lot of stuff over-the-air without relying on your computer. It can download updates, and use iCloud as a backup resource.

Yes, certainly .. and my work systems /are/ maintained current. The dinosaur win2000 is at home; yes sadly outdated but so rarely used I hesitate to invest ... :)

I have wifi access for updates and cloud backup &etc., just no present way to run Sync. And unless apple enables sync as an iCloud function, I think I'm at a dead end on this. I appreciate your time & suggestions.
