Epson Workfore 630 Not Printing

So it seems recently that I have lost the ability to print on my Epson WorkForce 630. This is driving me nuts! I have contacted Epson Support and they walked me through some troubleshooting steps but nothing worked, so they said it's likely a OS X issue.


So I can see the printer, it's "Idled" with the green light. I can scan to my computrer from it, and I can even send a "Test Print" without any issues. However, printing from any programs is just not happening.


I have Reset Printing Systems several times and added the printer via "Default" and "IP" tags with same results. Anyone know of someting else I can try?

If you are getting a "Filter" error then open System Preferences > Sharing and ensure you have some text set in the Computer Name field. Not sure why this causes a problem but this issue has been reported many times in this forum.


If this is not your symptom then can you give some more detail about what happens when you do try to print.

Looking at Epson's setup guide for this model on OS X, it shows that it supports AirPrint as well as the Epson provided driver. Do you know which one you are using? If you are not sure, then the answer will be based on how you added the printer. From the Print & Scan pane, when you click on the plus button to add, a small window may appear and the Epson could be shown under the heading of Nearby Printers. If you select this entry, this will add the printer using Apple's AirPrint driver. If you click on the entry Add Printer or Scanner, this will open the Default Add printer view, and from this view you will see the Epson. When you select it, the Use menu will automatically select the AirPrint driver. So if you have been using this driver already, change the Use menu to the Epson driver and see what happens.


The other thing the document mentioned is that the Epson OS X driver does not support any of the IP protocols for the print queue. So you have to add the printer using the Default browser.

So I went and deleted all references to Epson in /Library/Printers and /Library/Cache. I installed an older version of Epson drivers (Driver Version 9.0). Now I am getting a Sopped - 'Filter' Failed message when attempting to print. Looking at the error logs is showing far more errors for each time I attempt to print. The errors are below.

I also attempted to connect via USB, but my Mac does nothing when connected to it?


Says "Sending Data to Printer" yet never prints??

Just checking, did you re-add the printer after plugging it in by USB? The wifi setup won't print to a USB printer.


And for reading the error_log - a line starting with E is an error, and we need about 5 lines above/before that to identify the print job and see what's going on.

Network Printer Troubleshooting


Ping printer: If you have the printers IP address open Terminal (Applications/Utilities) and at the prompt type: ping {printerIP}. You will get a reply or failure.


Printing not Working
