iPhoto can't be installed on Macintosh HD because Mac OS X version 10.7.5 or later is required. I have version 10.6.8. I can't buy the calendar I created because I need to update iPhoto. I'm NOT technically savvy & don't want to lose my calendar. B.

This is my first attempt at finding my way in the Apple Support Community. I am absolutely not tech-knowledgeable. How do I update iPhoto? I need iPhoto II. I apparently can't do it on my computer because I have Mac OS X version 19,6,8 and need 10.7.5 or later.I'm afraid that I'll lose my calendar after many hours of putting it together. I have no idea how the current system was installed. Anybody know what I should do....please and thank you.

iPhoto '11 is compatible with Mac OS X 10.6.8, but not the latest update. The solution is to buy iLife '11 on a DVD at Amazon > http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MC623Z-A-iLife-VERSION/dp/B003XKRZES

Insert the disc, install all the applications (or perform a custom install and update iPhoto) and open  > Software Update to update iPhoto to the most recent version supported in Mac OS X Snow Leopard

Thank you!! I'll give it a try. It seems that whenever I go to buy a book or a calendar - which is about once a year - it's just in time for another update. The last two times I was able to purchase on-line. This is far more inconvenient for me. What would happen if I ignored the update warning and just went ahead with my order? Would I lose my data?

There is no warning there, only a recommendation...

We recommend that you update to the latest version of iPhoto before placing your order,

On 10.6.8 you can update to 9.2.3.

You really need to rethink you're computing habits. Using a computer without a back up is like driving without a safety belt. Updating the OS and applications without one is like driving blindfolded and drunk without a safety belt...

Most Simple Back Up:

Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.

Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.

Example of such apps: Chronosync- but there are many others. Search on MacUpdateor the App Store

I read the words and automatically ***-umed (there's that word!) that they were trying to warn me, rather than take advantage of a sales opportunity.

I placed the order for my 15 calendars without difficulty and, lo and hehold, it was confirmed with an anticipated shipping and delivery date.

Thank you very much for your support. It is appreciated!!
