Q: Trouble backing up Iphone 4s

I have been trying to back up my Iphone, I just don't understand why it want back up. It tells me I have 5gb free and that there is nothing in the storage, and that that it has never been backed up before. If that is the case why will it not back up?

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.2
