Hi

I have an iPad 2 which is now out of warranty. there is an issue with the screen which i feel may have been there sisnce new but has gone un noticed as i dont use it for much and when i do its to watch a film etc

there is a line (not visable) vertical about 1 cm right of the home button and would say only 1mm wide that is un responsive.

i notice when unlocking the ipad it was as if you swiped and lifted you finger off. if you did it quick it is finse if you do it slow it doesnt unlock

I confirm the problem by trying to move an icon past this line and its as if you take you finger off again. or open a drawing app and drawing across this section shows break is the drwaing or writing as if you have lost contact with the screen.

i am now stuck with a an expensive faultu ipad as on speaking to apple when it was a month out of warranty they wouldnt help.

any ideas. i dont want to pay some back street shop to replace the screen to see dust and finger prints etc as the ipad is like new.

cheers

Sounds like there may be an issue with the screen, and replacement may be the only solution.

However try this

Reboot device by pressing both the home button and sleep/wake (power) buttons at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.

If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings (or for network connection issues 'reset network settings').

(no media or data will be deleted from the device, this will only take a minute).

If that doesn't work then backup and then restore the device as new first (to isolate cause of the issue). Then from backup if necessary.

Make sure iTunes is updated to the latest version

If you send it to Apple or take it an Apple Store they'll most likely just replace the device, not the screen.

There are other places to take it to like Radio Shack for example, but keep in mind that if you have someone other than apple work on it and something goes wrong, the original hardware warranty that came with your device, will be void.

If the original warranty is no longer valid, then it won't really matter I guess.

You can look through the phone book or do an internet search,

Otherwise, here are Apple's pricing

iPad model

Out-of-Warranty Service Fee

iPad mini

$219

iPad 3rd, 4th generation

$299

iPad 2, iPad

$249

A $6.95 shipping fee will be added if service is arranged through Apple and requires shipping. All fees are in US dollars and are subject to local tax. Certain damage is ineligible for out-of-warranty service, including catastrophic damage, such as the device separating into multiple pieces, and inoperability caused by unauthorized modifications. However, an iPad that has failed due to contact with liquid may be eligible for out-of-warranty service.
Apple reserves the right to determine whether or not your iPad is eligible for Out-of-Warranty service. Replacement iPads have a 90-day limited hardware warranty or assume the remainder of your standard warranty or AppleCare service contract coverage, whichever is longer. Please see the AppleCare+ for iPad and Apple Repair Terms And Conditions for further details.
