I am running Lion on my 2011 Mac Air. Rather than upgrade to Mountain Lion first, can I simply upgrade to Mavericks when it's released? Also,is it possible that not running Mountain Lion is the cause that iPhoto keeps crashing? Thanks.

Regarding the prerequisite operating system required to download Mavericks, I don't think Apple has announced that yet.
I'm running 10.8.5. I took it into Apple and they erased my OS and reinstalled it. Brought it home and fired it...crash! I'm beyond frustrated.
In your first post above you said "I am running Lion (which is OS X 10.7) on my 2011 MacBook Air."
In your second post you said "I'm running 10.8.5 (which is Mountain Lion)."
So I'm confused. Which is it?
The other thing to consider is the version of iPhoto you are running.
The current version is iPhoto '11 version 9.4.3. Your original post says version 6.0.5. Might this be the issue?
Well, I just checked and it is OS X 10.8.5. If that's Mountain Lion, then they upgraded me at the Apple store. I'm now running iPhoto 11 - 9.4.3. So, it appears I'm up to date but the problem still persists. Not only that, but iPhoto is running slower than it did before they reinstalled OSX. Loving my Mac right now.
