Q: How do I turn off the "cellular data is turned off for "podcasts"" message?

I keep getting this message or one like it for every app with the cellular data turned off when I am not connected to wifi. Is there a way to make this message go away like the don't show message in the future option windows gives users? I understand it probably helps users that aren't very knowledgable when it comes to using their phone but I do and it is very annoying. It was less annoying a message like it for location services but now I have to tap away the message 10 or more times a day.

iPhone 4S, iOS 7.0.2

I have had this configuration for a while, as it was explained earlier, but it doesn't work. I also get annoying messages inviting me to join every wifi location that I pass by when walking my dogs. Some day, someone is going to wreck their car trying to cut off this cellular alert so they can continue listening to their podcast/other apps. I've had to pull over.

So why don't you just turn off Ask to Join Other Networks?

    Hi thecolorofbeef,

I was really hopeful, and I'm happy it's working for you.  I'm running iOS 8.1 and just tried...and no luck.  Definitely not working with 8.1. Don't upgrade!!!

It is crap like this that are making iphone 6 my first and last Apple product. iOS is more overrated that IBM pc's in the 1980s.

Awesome, thanks so much. I'm on 8.1.1 and before this fix the pop up was back (I think) to every time I'd open an app, I tried your workaround and haven't experienced a notification all day. So great.

Clever.  Does not help me using 8.1.1.  Still get the occassional message.

The worst thing about this is that a fix would only require an additional conditional clause in whatever code is originating this message, e.g., if WiFi is turned on, get out.

On August 10 the New York Times had a laudatory article about Apple University, the company's training site.  I was amused by this quotation :"The idea: Apple designers strive for simplicity just as Picasso eliminated details to create a great work of art." considering that I was as frustrated as others by this unnecessary complication.

It appears that apple.com/feedback is not getting through to the proper people.  What is the next step?  Do they even read snail mail?

Wow! Nice work "thecolorofbeef"!. And thank you for sharing. While my next phone will not be an iPhone, until that happens, I can finally use my existing iphone w/out being harrased.

    Bad Apple!

I must have missed something. I tried on ip6 8.1 with spotify and it did not change anything. Still get the cell data warning every time I open app.

    Hi Baroninkjet,

This is the post from "thecolorofbeef" which helped me:

    -------------------------

I know this is an old discussion, but I think I may have found a workaround...

    Settings

    General

Scroll down to Restrictions, enter your passcode and select Enable Restrictions

Scroll down to the bottom of this list and click Cellular Data Use, select Don't Allow Changes

I have cellular data turned off for multiple apps including podcasts, and have not seen the alert popup even after quitting and restarting those apps.  I'm still on iOS 7.1.2, can someone check if this works for iOS 8?

    ---------------------------

The key, for me anyway, is the revelation of the RESTRICTIONS section, where you tell iPhone "Don't Allow Changes" to Cellular Data use. This turns off the annoying modal that prompts you to go into settings. (This is far from the first time that Apple has 'hidden' a useful feature in Restrictions, Parental Controls, and Accessibility sections.)

    hope this helps!

Apple is undermining the the reason IOs is different from Android.

Where  is the concern about user experience.

Stupid way make more money. Kickback fm carriers?

Yeah, I'm confused.  I followed Beef's instruction to the "T," to no avail.  I thought maybe it was because I was using 8.1 so I upgraded to 8.1.1.  But it's still popping up constantly.  Did I miss something?

Wish I could be of more help, but I can't imagine why its not working for you... unless: as you scroll down the list of restrictions (after you have provided your pin),  individual turn off any app that is currently on (green). There are quite a lot down there. You might start (if you haven't already done this) by turning EVERYTHING off. Go through each setting and do that. If that works, then you can start turning access back on, one by one, until you are comfortable with the results.

Good luck and hope that helps
