iTunes Library Extras.itdb Error

I have just recieved an error for itunes:

"The iTunes Library Extras.itdb file is locked, on locked disc or you do not have write permissions for this file"

My iTunes library, which is truly massive, is on a Time Capsule, which I use as a server.

I've tried to copy the .itdb file to desktop and then move it back into place. This had no effect.

I've tried changing the securities on the folder (were read and write anyway). This had no effect.

Naturally, I have rebooted several times.

Anyone have a suggestion here? These are the only suggestions I could find on the forum, but they are ineffective. It was also suggested to copy the entire itunes folder to desktop and then copy it back, but due to the massive size, this is not possible.

iTunes is the most recent version 11.1.1

This is ********! I have the same error. I had closed my laptop to bring it upstairs (I had just printed some labels and wanted to be in the same room as the printer since avery labels can be finicky . When I plugged it back in and opened the lid it was restarting and "recovering from an error." since then I have been getting that error. My iTunes library is rather large (100gb) and I keep it on the Pubic share of my MyBookLive by WD. I have backtracked each folder and the only one that does not have 'read&write' permission for "everyone" is the Public drive. I am logged in as Admin, I am the only user of my macbook pro, I have no idea why I shouldn't have permission to unlock these files. If anyone can help, I would be very grateful!

I have just had your same unpleasant experience: first a bad crash, then the error message when launching iTunes and finally the inability to follow that thread's suggestion about deleting the "locked" files as the system was seeing them as busy. No luck with permissions either, as my library files are on an external NAS. Until I discovered that I could RENAME the two ITDB files! I have just been able to launch iTunes and point it to my beloved library (holding all metadata for my 250GB of music files). I don't know whether "deleting" the ITDB files will have any side effects yet, if so I shall post.

I think I may have found a (kind-of) solution. What do we always ask friends and family when they come to us for tech support? "Have you tried turning it off and back on again?" I decided to try that with My Book Live and Voila! Every time iTunes gives me this problem I disconnect from my networked drives and power down the drive for five seconds. I plug it back in and permissions are restored and everything works perfectly. I have not had to do this for awhile because I realized that disconnecting from the networked drives before my computer goes to sleep is essential for the avoidence of this problem. 🙂

This worked like a charm. I have 12 plus gig of music on a network hard drive and it works fine on my PC. When I recently purchased an iMac it appears to have worked fine as well when I pointed it to the appropiate network folder. Crap happened when I inadvertantly attempted to hook up an airport time capsule and the blasted thing tried to take over my network. I un plugged the thing and then got the locked file error message...yet it still worked on my PC. So figure, moving the two files out of the folder worked.
