How do you secure the data on an ipad 2?

Use a passcode lock and have it set to be required "immediately" (otherwise, when the screen sleeps, the device is still accessible without the passcode for whatever timeout you have set).


If you feel it necessary, disable the Simple Passcode option and use a longer character string instead of a simple 4-digit passcode.


Enable an iCloud account even if you do not wish to enable any features other than find my iPad. Doing that will also automatically enable Activation Lock.


Those are really the only two security features you have to play with. iOS by default encrypts the data stored on the iPad, so as long as you use a passcode and keep people from gaining access, you are as safe as can be.
