How to secure info on an ipad 2?

Don't let it out of your possession. No one gets to your iPad unless you allow it.

Use a passcode lock and have it set to be required "immediately" (otherwise, when the screen sleeps, the device is still accessible without the passcode for whatever timeout you have set).

If you feel it necessary, disable the Simple Passcode option and use a longer character string instead of a simple 4-digit passcode.

Enable an iCloud account even if you do not wish to enable any features other than find my iPad. Doing that will also automatically enable Activation Lock.

Those are really the only two security features you have to play with. iOS by default encrypts the data stored on the iPad, so as long as you use a passcode and keep people from gaining access, you are as safe as can be.

In addition to the other comments, if you have data your wish to protect 1Password can keep secure notes in its encrypted database. I keep personal infrormation I need for travel in there.
