some songs don't sync! iPhone 5 (ios7.0.2), iTunes 11.1.1

Last week I tried to sync my iphone and iTunes said I had to install the latest version to do so.

After I installed the 11.1.1, some songs don't sync with the iPhone.

On the 'on this iPhone' tab on iTunes it shows this same songs with a circle before the name, and they are grey, not black as the ones that are on the iPhone.

I've tried to find out what's wrong, even wondered if I did something to mess this up, but I can't figure it out.

Help? Anyone? 😐

The 'on this iPhone' list look like this:

Hello Laura,

Thank you for providing the details of the issue you are experiencing when trying to sync your music to your iPhone.

I recommend trying to resync. You can resync content to the iPhone by unchecking "Sync Music" and then clicking "Apply" and then checking "Sync Music" and then clicking "Apply" again:

The same Issue here!

After updating on 7.0.3 and updating Itunes 11.1.2.32

I can't sync some songs (.m4a, size is more than 20mb)

Itunes tryes t sync and after all says "cancel synchronization...." Playlist looks like on first picture here "circle before the name, and they are grey"

Tryed different actions from restore process to reinstall Itunes (including removing all files from computer) Problem still remains.

The problem is not with the file format (the other big files and .m4a format) so what is wrong with the files?

Thanks.

I'm having similar issues with my iTunes and iPhone. My problem is though, that my computer used to be my son's computer before I bought him a Mac, so the majority of songs on iTunes are his songs. There are a few I'd like to sync to my phone, but I can't because iTunes tells me I'm not authorized, or they're in iCloud (don't even get me started with iCloud!), or I need his password, which he doesn't even remember b/c these songs are pretty old.

Anyway...today I took a CD and imported the songs on it so I could put them on my phone. Only two synced. I don't know why. The others came up gray, like the other people on here. I now have ten songs that iTunes can't sync and I have no idea why.

Would someone be able to help me?

Thanks!

I have had this problem for a while, at least for songs that I ripped from my CDs. They just stopped syncing at some point. I tried everything and finally figured it out. It seems that iPhone sorts by "Album Artist" metadata rather than"Artist" metadata, whereas iTunes on my Mac was fine sorting by Artist metadata. So while they were being synced to my iPhone, they were not grouped by the Artist because for my ripped songs, the "Album Artist" was not filled in on iTunes.

You can find this out by doing a search in your Music app for the artist and see if the songs you think are not syncing are in fact on your iOS device.

To fix, go to the song/album on iTunes, right mouse click and select "Get Info". If the "Album Artist" field is empty or incorrect, change to the right artist name and resync. Worked for me.

Hey D,

Actually I wound up calling Apple and I found out that I needed more space on my iPhone. I had to delete all my photos and videos, import them on the computer, and then I was able to sync the iPhone and add all the songs.

I did have another problem though and the girl I spoke with just seemed to confuse me more. I'm using my son's old PC (I had bought him a Mac four years ago), which is now my PC, and all his songs on iTunes is still in here. So now his songs and my songs are in the same library, but I can't listen to the majority of his songs (or put them on my iPhone), b/c I need his password (which he doesn't remember), or it says I'm not authorized. ****, I PAID for all these songs he put on here, I should be authorized! lol So do you know how I can authorize myself to even PLAY the songs, never mind put them on my iPhone?

Thanks.

I think that is the right point with metadata issue...

I also found the "problem songs" which were by the way from the same album. I fixed my problem just by downloading another version of that album (it's just 10 songs) and sync my phone well.

I guess that there is another solution by changing itunes media library .xml file with all media and removing problem elements.

Thanks.

I am having the same issue, it is infuriating. I have tried to isolate the songs that are not syncing to the phone but I haven't been able to recreate the problem consistently. It seams to be random. It's not a space issue, I have over 8 gb of space remaining. The songs are set up to sync automatically from playlists. Also, while syncing my phone, occasionally I will get a message in itunes that says "cancelling sync" and it will just hang there indefinitely. I have already restored the phone and resynced numerous times. i just updated itunes and it didn't resolve the issue. This is really shaking my confidence in apple, this of all things should work seamlessly without errors. I feel like I may have made a mistake upgrading my iphone and itunes.

my system:

macbook pro mid 2010
osx 10.8.5
itunes 11.1.3
iphone 5s running ios 7.0.3

I had the same thing happen to me. The grayed out songs with a zero next to them. And then some songs sync, but not others.

I found a solution that worked for me for both my iPhone 5s and my iPad 4:

1) Uncheck the new songs you want to sync, along with all other songs from that artist, in your playlist in iTunes on your computer.

2) Use the USB cable to sync (turn off WiFi first on your iPhone).

3) After the sync completes, close iTunes on your computer.

4) Unplug your USB cable from your iPhone.

5) Open iTunes on your computer.

6) In your playlist in iTunes on your computer, check all of the new songs you want to sync, along with all other songs from that artist.

7) Plug in the USB cable to your iPhone.

8) After syncing, all of your songs should have synced to your playlist on your iPhone.

There must be a glitch in the new iTunes update that Apple will need to fix with another update. At least this workaround works until then. It was frustrating that it took me two days to figure out a solution, but I hope that others see this and are spared some of the misery I went through.

Same issue recently happened to me HOWEVER i might have a fix. (iphone is currently syncing but songs that were greyed out earlier are now able to play.)

Greyed out songs using iTunes 11.1.3

What i did to fix:

-Under the "summary" tab (when iphone is connected to itunes)

> under "options" check off "Mannually manage music and videos".

-Begin sync

-Under the "on this iphone tab" (where you can see all of your greyed out music)

(at the bottom of this tab you will see your iphones designated file's via colour and the "sync" button to the right of this bar.

>Above the sync button there is a "settings" and "autofill" buttons.)

>Click "settings"

>Uncheck everything

after i unchecked everything all of my songs began to sync.

IMPORTANT:

under this "on this iphone tab" some songs/albums are greyed out still, however when looking on my iphone under music the songs/albums that are greyed out on itunes are on my iphone and do play even though they are greyed out on itunes.

I do not remember EVER turning autofill on. I did however recently update itunes to 11.1.3

Very odd. It might only be a temporary fix, i have 5500+ songs on my iphone will update if i notice this fix does not work.

Ive found about 10 pages since (september alone) on the apple support forms regarding simmilar syncing issues with itunes across multiple iphone models. So if this is exactly the issue you are having you are not alone.

Try it for yourself.

Hope I've helped at least one person.

I was experiencing the same problem and tried all sorts of stuff, including items in this thread with no luck, this is what ultimately worked for me.

1. Download iFunBox (or other utility that gives you access to the filesystem)

2. Delete the _iTunes_Control folder

3. Delete everything in the Purchases folder

4. Force a sync in itunes

5. Profit.

So far I haven't seen any weird problems, other than my songs now sync.

I was able to work around this issue by creating a new playlist, using all of the same songs that were on my playlist that was not syncing. I gave it a different name, synced my phone, then deleted the old and affected playlist. I then renamed my new playlist to the same thing I had called the old affected one. All works fine now and all songs have finally synced.

Lots of feedbacks but none really addressing the issue at hand. This is actually very easy to fix. If your question is "I've restored my iPod or iPhone and want to sync using iTunes on a Mac, using the latest version of iTunes but no data (i.e. music etc) transfers when I do this" then all you need to do is connect your device to your Mac and click on your device and go to > Options then uncheck "Manually Manage Music and Videos". You will then need to click > Apply. This will show you a prompt which will allow you to re-sync again with your iTunes. I've tested this on iPhone and iPod Touch latest versions.
