27" Cinema Display - no sound

A couple days a go, by 27" Cinema (2011) stopped working. Screen went black. It's plugged into a 2013 macbook pro retina.

I did an SMC reset on teh macbook and the screen eventially came back.

But now the speakers don't work. This has happened a couple times... Is there a comon reset for the montor?

Note: I have a thoery that the Thunderbolt port in the macbook might need replacing, BUT the monitor failed in both ports on the laptop. I think the likelyhood of two ports failing is low.

What I want to do is see if I can isolate everythign but port failure BEFORE I drive for 2hrs to get to an apple store with a 27" monitor.

Many thanks!

Ok. So after checking through the control panels in System Preferences... My sound output changed mysteriously to "internal speakers"

Once I re-set it ot the Displayport it works fine.

Oddly, the balance also shifter to full-left only.

WEIRD. But all fixed...?
