Q: This version of the firmware stops me playing any purchased content!

Since the upgrade I can no longer play purchased content (films, TV, music, anything purchased). I can see it, I can preview it but I can't play anything! If I factory reset (which re-downloads and applies the latest firmware) then I can get one play out of it before it stops again.

Does this mean I have to do a factory reset every time I want to play something?!?!?!?!

I will be told "have you checked your internet connection" etc etc, but this is the only thing that doesn't work. I can stream the same content to my iPad over the same WiFi, and I can access the store to see my purchased content and preview it through Apple TV, just not play it through Apple TV. And only since the firmware update!

I read that others are having similar problems. How do I revert back to v5.3 firmware or when is a fixed firmware due? At present I have a useless piece of plastic!

Come on Apple, sort this please!!!!!!

Anyone any ideas on how to get this sorted?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.

You can't revert to earlier software nor should you try.

If you aren't willing to consider your network as the problem, there isn't a lot we can do for you. However, if it is your network, waiting for Apple to fix something that isn't broken may well result in a long wait.

Thanks for your reply and thanksfor the welcome.

I'm not considering the network, because a) everything else works, including streaming the same content to an iPad on the same network, b) I've reset the modem and router with no effect, c) after a factory reset it works once then stops - if it was network it wouldn't work at all, d) I can access everything on the store, can see my purchased content and even preview it, just won't play it and e) I've sat on the phone with an apple support engineer and gone through everything who agrees it isn't the network.

It feels like the device has been blocked from playing the content somehow (hence a hardware swap might work). My other Apple hardware can download/stream and play my purchased content quite happily on the same network.

So any help or ideas you or anyone else can come up with would be greatly appreciated

Otherwise its back to the Apple store for a replacement (engineer says may be hardware but not likely) or money back.

    Thanks.

If you don't have a network, that could well be why your Apple TV doesn't work properly.

I have exactly the same problem! And my network is fine.. streams netflix thru appletv, so please dont revert to that answer. I got one play from the reset as wel... I find your answers unreasonable, Churchill. The fact is it isnt my network and this is a new problem. Please advise anything other than its my network!!!!!
