Unable to toggle Snapping, Skimming etc

I seem to have lost the ability to toggle snapping, skimming etc on and off.

This is very annoying.

Whether I use keyboard shortcuts, the mouse to click the toolbar icons, or select them in "View" they stay on all the time.

Trashed prefs, rebooted Mac, to no avail.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks Russ,

Same in another project - I'll check some others later (have to go out for an hour now).

Trashed FCP X and because the App Store shows it as installed - even with trash emptied, all external HDs, Time Machine and a networked iMac powered off, I couldn't re-download it. So I restored the App from June (from TM)still the same issue.

Repaired permissions - still no toggle.

Short of a new user acount and all the delights that entails, I'm out of ideas now.

Tom,

Thanks for your help.

The OS is stated below the question - FCP X version is 10.0.9.

Can you be more specific about the Terminal suggestion?

Is this a temporary thing so that the App Store doesn't see FCP X as installed?

Do I need to delete it from Terminal to allow FCP X to work again - I know very litte about Terminal - and usually try to avoid it if I can (but in this case, I'm willing to have a go).

Lastly, it occurred to me I'm using a few FX Factory plugins, so I disabled all of them - but it had no effect on the problem.

I ran the string (defaults delete com.apple.FinalCut) in Terminal but it made no difference.

Should I have trashed the application first?

Next, I created a new user on my Mac and the problem went away instantly.

Guess I must do something drastic or plod along with skimming and snapping permanently on.

Interestingly, when I restored the application from Time Machine, of course the version was 10.0.8 - but it was still showing as 10.0.9 when the app was launching.

When I created the new user and logged into that, the version was 10.0.8 and I got an update notice from the App Store.

I don't know how you feel about running a housekeeping app like OnyX,

Thanks Russ - I don't have much faith in those apps (maybe they've improved of late though).

Personally, I prefer to do a fresh reinstall - although it's tedious in the extreme.

My problem now is that I apparently have no HD Recovery Drive - and for some reason, the Mountain Lion download from the App Store is hanging at 425 MB!

Never mind, it's clearly a test of my patience...

There's a new post on this (snapping issue) so maybe it's a bug?
