Q: My phone will not play any songs manually uploaded to my phone?

They were working fine before now it just skips over any song not purchased directly from the itunes store. It just started a couple days ago after a recent syncing and attempt to manually upload a couple new hard copy cds i bought. Both my phone and itunes are updated. All of the songs are still "on my phone" but when i click specifically on one it gets a red circle with a red square in it beside it the track name.

When my phone is plugged into my computer some of the new songs I was trying to upload are greyed out on the list of my music with a dashed circle beside. and as for the preexisting songs; if i click on them they get a ! in a circle beside it. Please help! I miss my songs. Thank you.

    Hey Kelsieee,

First, I would try to resolve the issue with the ! in a circle that you're seeing in iTunes. There's some steps in the following article that go over what that ! usually means and how to fix it:

Unfortuantely, this doesnt apply to me. The ( ! ) icon is only displayed on my Music list when my phone is plugged into the computer. All of my media is still present in my computer's Itunes library. The issue is strictly with my phone and it's inability to play any of the music transferred from my library.

Should I try to remove all songs off of my phone and try transferring them again? If so, I'm not sure how to do that.

    Thanks for you input.

Hi. I'm having this exact same issue.

My iPhone 4 wouldn't sync properly earlier this evening - it just hung at stage 5/5 "waiting for items to sync" - and now it won't play any music except the tracks that I have bought from the iTunes Store (ie it won't play anything that I have imported to iTunes from CD) and nor will it play any podcasts. All the items are still visible in, and playable from, iTunes.

Any help anyone can suggest would be gratefully received. Thanks.

Hi again.  I seem to have resolved the problem, by backing the phone up; restoring to factory settings; then restoring the back-up.  The problem seems to have been related to a huge chunk of 'other data' stored on the phone.  This disappeared after the factory restore and the sync progressed smoothly.

Hope that helps anyone else with the same issue?
