My MacBook suddenly started running slow

Hello! I've had my MacBook Pro for since 2010 and it suddenly started running slow. This has been going on for a week already. I've restarted my MacBook many times and when I'm not using it I shut it down. I've tried many things to make it run faster and deleted 14k files that were mostly text documents, pictures, videos, etc. and deleted my whole iTunes library hoping it would work but nothing. I currently have 77.07 GB left but space has never been the problem since in the past I've had 10GB or to the point where I had no GB and it still ran perfectly. Two things I've noticed is that when it gets hot it starts running slow and also when I start watching videos on youtube or ones that are already in my MacBook. Last night I reset my SMC hoping it would work better and it only ran slow because of the heat but I see no change. I'm trying anything possible to fix this myself before taking it to the Apple Store and spending money on something I could've probably fixed myself.

Here's some information on my MacBook

This is not the place to post your information. Start a new discussion topic fully explaining your situation and then post the EtreCheck info. If you want Lex's help then come back here with a link to your new discussion and he'll probably join you when he has the time. That's just the way this forum works. New topic for each user with an issue unless you just want a general discussion topic.

As we've posted numerious times, if you want to discuss this topic in general, that's fine, but if you are here to solve your own personal issue then you are going about it in the wrong way.

Please start a new discussion topic, explain your problems in detail (e.g. what's slow, etc.) along with the EtreCheck output and you'll much more help faster. That's just the way these forums are designed to work.

While you are waiting, you might want to get rid of some Adware you installed. See the Adware Removal Guide, starting with "Spigot".

Then un-install MacKeeper in accordance with the developers guidelines. Look over the EtreCheck list to see if you recognize everything there as something you still need and use. If you really need to be running all that then you should start shopping for additional RAM as 4GB is the absolute minimum for Mavericks and your Page-outs number indicate you need more.

Hello Lex,

I have the same problem. I already started deleting files, but that barely makes a difference. Can you help me out?

I actually just wanted to make a backup and then reboot my macbook to factory settings. After that replace all the files from time machine back to my mac. Does that even work, or is there a better way?

(The same time I'm making this post, I'm also making a back up on an external hard drive.)

Thanks in advance,

We try a cleaning first, to see wehther that solves already the issue. OK?

Backup, backup, backup.

Tell me what you want.

Lex

Editing this post:

I think that completely uninstalling the Anchor software (Ajax and HotspotShield) will already solve your issue.

If you did it already we will remove the leftovers in the next action....

Lex,

PrivilegedHelper.plist

Mijn MacBook blijft erg traag.

May 17, 2014 12:21 AM in response to MauritsS

Maurits,

1. kijk ook eens even in

Daarna normale herstart.

May 17, 2014 2:49 AM in response to Lexiepex

Yes!

In ieder geval heel erg bedankt Lex!

Tip: Never download apps or tools from Softonic or Cnet (download.com) or other such 'collection' sites: many of those sites build in trackers in the installers, always downoad from the developer's websites.

Lex,

com.anchorfree.tun staat nogsteeds in mijn EtreCheck. Heel apart.
