Can I update my 3.1.2 (7D11) Ipod touch to a newer version?

I tried going to Settings-General- but I did not find the upgrade. I've also tried updating from Itunes but it says "The Ipod software update server could not be contacted". Any help?

The Software Update function was introduced in iOS 5.

You will have to update with iTunes.

Which iPod model do you have:

If you are running 3.1.2, you either have a 1st gen, a 2nd gen, or a 3rd gen.

A 1G can run 3.1.3

A 2G 4.2.1

And a 3G 5.1.1

Update Server

Try:

- Powering off and then back on your router.

- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server

- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers

Public DNS — Google Developers

OpenDNS IP Addresses

- For one user uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes resolved the problem

- Try on another computer/network

- Wait if it is an Apple problem
