Only serious answers please, no promotion
I have the same issue.
I have a Mac air and iPad2 . All updates are installed (last one was iTunes yeasterday)
I normally put movies on my iPad before going away for work.
I can only get them to play through the shared movies section and select my media library. As soon as I close my laptop the movie will not play on my iPad. It apears that I can olnly stream movies now. (I am playing a personal mp4 movie file not an apple store download)
Any help would be appreciated
MacBook Air 11" late 2010
OSX 10.8.5
iTunes - 11.1.1
Solutions are prfered rather than work arounds.
Thanks
Are you able to play the movie in iTunes? If so, when you connect your iPad and attempt to transfer the movie over to your iPad does it give you any messages about compatiblity? If so there should be an option available in one of the menus to create an iPad version - or similar wording - sorry doing this from memory - you may also get some joy by right-clicking the movie file and seeing if the option to create iPad version is available.
Regards,
Steve
Further update, try this: Choose File > Create New Version > Create iPad or Apple TV Version
Yes I can play it on iTunes. I can also play it on my iPad but it will only stream from my library. When I look under 'shared' on my iPad I get 2 options. My iPad or my Library. Nothing shows under my iPad, when I select my Library I can see the file. If my laptop is off then I get 'Request timed out'.If my laptop is on then it plays fine.
It apears it won't allow me to store the file on my iPad. When I sync it it does not show any video on the lower percentage bar, just 'Other'
Thanks for your help.
Ben
What I did and worked was that I download the quicktime player and I made it my "open with" option for all the mp4 files. Then I restated my PC and the problem was solved.
Try it and let know. :)
Thank, but it didn't work. I also tried changing my default player from VLC to quicktime and that didn't help either. I am currently trying to recode it through handbrake to confirm if it is a file format issue.
The whole video app seems very ordinary, it doesn't refresh my library on my iPadf after removing old files... It's got me buggered!
No did't make a diference other than change the file type from mp4 tp m4v
Thanks anyway.
Fixed!
I changed my iPad to back-up to my computer then back to iCloud again and everything is back to normal.
Thanks for your input!
Having the same issue. Plays fine in iTunes but won't import to iPad.
Found "Create New Version" under "File" menu when the video is selected. I am trying the "Convert iPad or Apple TV Version."
It sounds similar to the issue I had. See my previous post. I was in the process of converting my file when I fond the fix my issue.
Yeah I tried that first and it didn't help. Converting has helped. Takes an hour or more a file and doubles the file size so not an ideal fix. I have 5 movies I am trying to add so yeah. Turned into all day fun.
Sounds like possible a file format issue. I use handbrake to convert but still takes a while to convert. Good luck
Yup never had issues with the handbrake codec before. That's where the files originated. DVD to handbrake from what I bought. Would be nicer if there were digital versions of all movies available. Less work. iTunes is converting the handbraked file to it's own. Better not stay this way. Need to upgrade to Mavericks and the new iTunes and test there after back up.
