I have the same issue.

I have a Mac air and iPad2 . All updates are installed (last one was iTunes yeasterday)

I normally put movies on my iPad before going away for work.

I can only get them to play through the shared movies section and select my media library. As soon as I close my laptop the movie will not play on my iPad. It apears that I can olnly stream movies now. (I am playing a personal mp4 movie file not an apple store download)

Any help would be appreciated

Are you able to play the movie in iTunes? If so, when you connect your iPad and attempt to transfer the movie over to your iPad does it give you any messages about compatiblity? If so there should be an option available in one of the menus to create an iPad version - or similar wording - sorry doing this from memory - you may also get some joy by right-clicking the movie file and seeing if the option to create iPad version is available.

Steve

Further update, try this: Choose File > Create New Version > Create iPad or Apple TV Version

Yes I can play it on iTunes. I can also play it on my iPad but it will only stream from my library. When I look under 'shared' on my iPad I get 2 options. My iPad or my Library. Nothing shows under my iPad, when I select my Library I can see the file. If my laptop is off then I get 'Request timed out'.If my laptop is on then it plays fine.

It apears it won't allow me to store the file on my iPad. When I sync it it does not show any video on the lower percentage bar, just 'Other'

Thanks for your help.

Yup never had issues with the handbrake codec before. That's where the files originated. DVD to handbrake from what I bought. Would be nicer if there were digital versions of all movies available. Less work. iTunes is converting the handbraked file to it's own. Better not stay this way. Need to upgrade to Mavericks and the new iTunes and test there after back up.
