ipod file system is now RAW [needs massive amount of help]

I am not completely sure how this happened. I was transfering a video onto my ipod when windows displays the "delay write file" error, and tells me that the artwork directory is corrupt or unreadable on my ipod and that i should run checkdisk. Once checkdisk concluded the report said that there were errors but because i didn't run chkdsk with the /f parameter the errors were fixed. So I ran chkdsk twice more, once with /f and once with /r, and no more errors were found. At the conclusion of that there was no firmware on my ipod (and even though the updater said i had version 1.1 on there, there was no GUI.) so I tried to update the firmware with the 6/28/06 firmware and received the failure to write error. So I ran chkdsk again and the file system had changed from FAT32 to RAW. So I once again ran the updater and now 50% of the time I receive the "mulitpul applications are using the ipod" error and the other 50% of the time I get the "failure to write" error.

I have also tried formating the filesystem back to FAT32 using windows with my ipod both in and out of disk mode. None of these efforts have worked.

I am now looking at a very sleek, $300 paper weight. Any advice to remedy this would be amazing.

Hi there-

Run through the steps in this article, and that will take care of "multiple applications using iPod"
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538

Then, put the iPod into disk mode, and connect it to your computer.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651

Once you do that, try to format this way:
Open Control Panel
Open Administrative Tools
Open Computer Management
Under Storage, select Disk Management
Find the iPod volume
Right-click on it and select "Format"
You want the format to be set to FAT32. Leave the rest of the settings as default, and make sure that "Quick format" is not selected.
Start the format.

If you're able to complete the format, then you should restore the iPod (even though iTunes usually pulls it up right away)
