iCloud and my documents
Icloud has a checkmark next to documents and data. Are my documents on my hard drive being backed up?

No, this means that you will get the option to also save documents of some apps directly in iCloud (e.g. Pages, Keynote, Numbers, Pixelmator etc.) It has nothing to do with a backup for Mac.
