Q: Airport Extreme and Express as repeaters with Uverse

I used to have Comcast internet. I used an Airport Extreme as my router and then because I was getting poor speeds upstairs I added an Airport Express upstairs that was hardwired to the Extreme via powerline adapters.

I just switched to Uverse which has the all in one gateway. I don't need to deactivate the wifi on the Uverse gateway and use the Extreme as a router or anything like that. I just want the same simple set up I had before but now also using the Extreme as a repeater like the Express in another corner of the house upstairs. I can't seem to figure out how to get this to work though, mainly getting the Extreme to act as a simple repeater.

I have the Uverse gateway connected to a powerline adapter and the Extreme and Express fully factory reset and located where I want them with their powerline adpaters ready to go. I just need to know how to get them to connect to the Uverse Gateway as simple repeaters hardwired via powerline adapters. Thanks.

Since both AirPorts are connected back to the Uverse gateway by "Ethernet" both need to be configured the same way to form a roaming network with this gateway.

The keys for a successful roaming network are:

    • All base stations need to be interconnected by Ethernet.
    • The "main" base station needs to provide both NAT & DHCP services. This would be the Uverse gateway in this case.
    • All other base stations must be configured as a bridge.
    • All base stations must use the same Network Name (aka SSID).
    • All base stations must use the same wireless security type and password.

Thanks for the reply. I'm just having a heck of a time with this uverse router. I can't get the Airports to stay connected so they're disconnected for now. Nothing will stay connected to this router. I'm also getting atrocious wifi speeds. I have the router upstairs and my main computer downstairs. The main computer is connected via powerline adapters and works fine with no hangups or disconnections plus I'm getting 20mbps down speed so the speed is there. However; standing right next to the router with my iPhone 5s I get, if I'm lucky, 4-5 mbps down speed and it's always hanging up and disconnecting so I end up just turning it off going to LTE. Our other devices get terrible speeds and can't ever stay connected either. Does it sound like the router is having some sort of issue?
