Earbuds shorting?

Recently, my earphone jack was bend slightly and I could easily bend it back. Now, whenever I insert it into the headphone jack on the iPod, I music doesn't come in clearly unless it hold the cable to one side, and it changes which direction I have to move it. Would it be a problem with earphones itself or could the inner jack be broken from inserting a bent headphone jack?

Try another set of headphones that work in other devices.

If they work in your iPod then your earphones are bad. If they do not work then yo damaged the headphone jack. If the jack is bad

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for 16 GB 5G and $149 for the other 5Gs.. They do not fix yours.
