Darwin/BSD login prompt at start up???

This is what occurs everytime I boot my machine. I get: Darwin/BSD (my-macbook-pro.local) (console) , then a verbose login, and then starts up normally, with no issue after that. Can log in fine. This does not occur when I boot into my recovery partition, however:

I have been repeatedly receiving these console messages since the issue began occuring (yesterday??). I am not sure if there is any relation. I don't recall modifying my system in anyway:

10/13/13 12:46:28.838 AM com.apple.launchd[1]: (com.apple.nis.ypserv[676]) Exited with code: 1

10/13/13 12:46:28.838 AM com.apple.launchd[1]: (com.apple.nis.ypserv) Throttling respawn: Will start in 10 seconds

10/13/13 12:46:38.863 AM ypserv[679]: unable to register (YPPROG, YPVERS, udp).

Things I have already done:

1) Reset NVRAM.... made sure no boot-args set

2) Safe mode boot - still occurs

3) Repaired permissions, verified the disk in recovery mode - all checked out.

4) Reinstalled OSX via recovery mode

Saw a related thread, but the single user mode instructions given no longer apply:

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Back up all data to at least two different storage devices, if you haven't already done so. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.

Erase and install OS X. This operation will destroy all data on the startup volume, so you had be better be sure of your backups. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

When you reboot, the Setup Assistant will launch to take you through the initial setup process. Follow the prompt to transfer the data from one of your backups. Don't transfer the Guest account, if it was enabled on the old system.

If you installed the Java runtime distributed by Apple and still need it, you'll have to reinstall it.
