New aluminum remotes and  iMac G5

Does the new Apple remote work with the old iMac G5 iSight? I got this recently for free and there isn't any peripherals with it so I got a mouse and keyboard (all aftermarket, I'm a car guy so I forgot what the computer term was). Now it's supposed to have a white plastic remotes. Does the new metal one work with this kind? It's a 2.1ghz powerpc g5 imac with the isight and 20" screen which has the usual common monochrome (strangely it was fine before apple store reinstalled os x). Would it also stick to the magnets on the side as well because if it can't then i'm going to use the magnets to hang USB's on keyrings.
