Do not install a "green" drive in a Mac, especially an older one. Go to OWC to find a suitable drive. I would suggest avoiding drives that are intended for 6 Gb/s interfaces. Use 1.5 or 3.0 Gb/s interface instead.
I've had real good luck with the WD Blue's in the earlier 2006 thru 2008 Intel iMac's and I would go for the > WD Blue 1 TB WD10EZEX instead.
will the WD10EZEX work on my mid 2007 imac?
It should. But my inclination is to avoid WD Blue in favor of the Black versions. However, den.thed did say the Blue drives worked in his older iMacs.
Differences between blue ad Black version?
Blue drives are also energy conservant, and they also have a built-in motion sensor that may conflict with the one built-in to the computer. Not an issue, usually, with iMacs because they are not portable.
Yes, that will work in your 2007 iMac.
I also find that the Blues run a little cooler and quieter than the Blacks.
edit:
which is something that I consider a good match for all-in-one systems like the iMac's
I opted for the hard drive WD10EZEX, now I expect the delivery and then proceed to mount it. Thanx. Only another question, after the installation of the hard drive, how i install the osx?
Before you can install OS X on the new HD you must first set it's Partition Map Scheme to GUID and it's Format to OS Extended (Journaled).
To acomplish that you will need to use the original Disc 1 that came with your iMac or the Retail 10.6 Disc.
1. Boot from your install Disc or Retail 10.6 DVD and open Disk Utility.
2. Highlight the new HD in the list of drives and select the Partition tab.
3. Under Volume Scheme select 1 Partition and click the Options... button.
4. Select GUID Partition Table in the drop down window and click OK.
5. Set the Format to Mac OS Extended (Jour) and click the Apply button.
6. Once thats done then you can do a clean Install or Restore from TM.
Update that OS X version to 10.6.8 and then go to the App Store for 10.8.
My original disk is 10.5 Leopard, it's good for do this?
It's good and you can install it if you want instead of Snow Leopard, but I would recommend you to upgrade to Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573Z/A/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
I've buyed Mountain Lion on the Mac App Store, fai i do all with this?
You need Mac OS X Snow Leopard to install OS X Mountain Lion. As your hard drive is broken, there is no way to install OS X Mountain Lion without installing Snow Leopard or Lion. Apart from that, as you purchased OS X Mountain Lion, it means that you already used Mac OS X Snow Leopard, so you may have the Mac OS X Snow Leopard disc
