Q: Hi everybody can i use a canadian gift card if my apple id is american?

No, all iTunes gift cards are country-specific - a Canadian gift can only be used in Canada and can only be redeemed onto a Canadian iTunes account.

SO if I set up a Canadian ID and account and redeem my card for some music, will I be able to access the music I bought when I return to the U.S. And go back to my US ID?

Make sure that you download copies of the song files to your hard drive and to a separate backup before you cross the border.
