When I try to create a title for an event it keeps kicking me out and won't let me type. I can only type a few letters before it kicks me out.

When I try to create a title for an event it keeps kicking me out and I can only type a few letters at a time before it kicks me out again.

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
