Why did my speakers & ringer suddenly stop working?

Why did my speakers & ringer suddenly stop working? The only way I can tell if the phone is ringing is with the headphones plugged in. There is no sound from the iphone 5 internal speakers or other speakers via bluetooth. It is a fairly new phone and it doesn't make sense for both speakers to just stop working out of the blue like this. I've tried resetting the phone to no avail and have gone through the settings but cannot find a fix. Please help.
