Itunes crashes when connecting iphone

Hi all, I have an iPhone 5 running ios 7.0.2 and iTunes lastest version installed on Windows 8. The problem is, every time I try to connect my iPhone to my computer, iTunes crashes. This started occuring recently (since I upgraded iTunes to the latest version). So is it possible to get some help to fix it ?

That article isn't helpful. It advises me to run through different "tests" but doesn't tell me what to do if they pass or fail. I got to step three, and I still get the beach ball with automatic synching disabled. So then what does that mean? I get to step 5, and my iPad connects to a different Mac just fine, but they are both running the same exact version of iTunes (11.1.1). So what does that mean?

I tried trashing the SyncServices folder, and running the Perl shell script.

The second I plug in my iPad to my Mac Pro, iTunes gives me the spinning beach ball of death. No problems at all on my Macbook Air.

Hello,

I was experiencing the same issue. My Iphone 5 was crashing when attempting to connect via iTunes on Windows 8.1.

The fix for me was to go into my iPhone settings. Go Settings<General<Reset.

Select 'Reset all settings'. (This will not erase any content on your device). Make sure you DO NOT select 'Erase all content and settings'!!!

Your Iphone will restart after resetting the settings. Voila! Now you can connect your Iphone to Itunes and do a backup and sync your data.

Hope this helps.

UPDATE TO MY LAST POST -

The steps I listed above only worked for my iPhone 5c. For my sister's iPhone 5c, the steps I described did not, in fact, work. We replaced the cable for her phone, and still iTunes was crashing as soon as I would plug her phone in.

What the problem was...

She had used a program on Windows called 'Sync iOS', to add some ringtones and music to her phone. Apparently this was causing the issue with the iTunes crash. Since I could not use iTunes to back up her data, I actually used the program 'Sync iOS' to back up her contacts, apps, photos and videos to her desktop. Then, in order to get the iPhone to connect to iTunes without crashing, I had to do a Factory Reset on the Phone.

Once I Factory Reset the phone (careful, as this will erase all user content and settings) upon the next boot, I was able to connect to iTunes and update the phone. I then used Dropbox to replace the contact list, photos, and videos onto her phone. It was a bit of a headache, but I figured I would post this here to help anyone in the future.
