how to move songs from macbook to iphone

I'm new to the iphone. Where's the best place to find just basic information on using the iphone? I have the user guide but it's to lengthy.

How do i transfer music from my macbook to my iphone 5c? It looks like a few songs came in through icloud but most of my library did not. When I plug my phone into the mac, finder does not show the iphone under devices.

FYI: itunes on my mac has no music in it. This is all music that I have outside of itunes.
