cannot disable iMac going to sleep

My iMac frequently goes into sleep mode if nothing is done actively, but it does cancel e.g. photo uploads. This happens even if I set the sleep timer in the system menu to "never" under Energy. Screen saver is off. What am I doing wrong?

Ok, found it. It was auto log-off and not sleep mode. The auto log-off can be switched on and off under System Prefs, Security, General.
