ATI Radeon HD 5770 Early MacPro 2008

I installed the 5770 in July and now having issues with booting up. The mac is booting but the displays are not coming up.

2 LG 27 inch displays, OS 10.8.5.

Connected using 2 single link active adapters, ultra-av mini to dvi-d.

Early MacPro 2008 3,1 QuadCore

The fan is spinning just as it should but it just doesn't seem to start the displays.

I have zapped the pram, reset smc, moved to another pci slot and nothing keeps this working consistently. Any help would be appreciated!

Try booting with Video card which came with your Mac Pro, if the display comes up.

If it comes up the screen, it's a HD5770's trouble.

The original card was sporadic so that is why I replaced it along with upgrading to 2 new monitors.

What else could it be?

I suppse it's a video card failure. I think it's still under 1 year warranty, so you'd better bring it to Genius Bar or contact Apple support and tell them the circumstances you face with.

That's what I was thinking also. As I was reading through the threads prior to posting I ran across that some thought Apple did not support this card in macs older than 2010.

I'll call and find out because I cannot think of what else this could be. Thanks kaz-k for your help!

as far as has been reported here, the ONLY issue with the Apple-firmware 5770 in Macs before 2010 is related to playing copy-protected movies. There have been no other problems, but there have been a few (surprisingly few) failures.

That's what I read that really is should work just fine. For the past 2 days it's come up as it should but the day before that I couldn't get past the black screens.

I'm going to call Apple and see what they suggest. I can't afford to have an hour struggle each time it wants to throw a tantrum.
