I'm actually quit shock of what you are telling me because usually software go files every where
The reason for this is that in Mac OS X most associated files are kept in the application package itself. If you choose any app then "control-click" on it, you can choose "Show package contents" from the contextual menu and you will see all the associated items.

As others have noted, other files are ususally just plist files in yourHome/Library/Preferences . Also some apps will install files in ~/Library/Application Support. Or ~/Documents.

Note: Some apps may also put a file in /Library/Startup Items or SystemPreferences >> Accounts >> Login items.
(So, it worth a look here too)

unfortunately there is no "uninstall" feature on a mac. you have to find the associated files (spotlight is a good resource if you are unsure of the location) and then drag them into the trash. if you are unsure of file locations and it is a third party application, and you have not been able to get rid of it, then you will have to contact the software manufacturer. Hi cecemf;

Don't be so shocked. Mac OS and Windows handle things in a totally different manner. Generally Windows places stuff everwhere on your system and it requires an uninstall program to remove it all. Mac OS on the other hand generally keeps things together so that removing that application is simple. If you don't do the search, all that is left behind are some very small perference files that are not important. If on the other hand there is need to remove things then the application generally provides an uninstall program but that does happen that frequently.
