Can not rent or purchase movies after 6.0 Apple TV update, what strategies have been used recently to successfuly rectify this problem?

I will provide a brief over view of what happened and what I have thus far tried:

I updated Apply TV software approximately two weeks ago based on a software update prompt. Afterwards, I experienced varying problems: requests to enter my three digit secuty code for my credit card only to be asked to resubmit or an inability to have the unit access the itunes store to proceed to rent or purchase a movie - would be sent back to the original screen to rent or pruchase a specific movie.

The following strategies (with reasons or rationale) were used to reectify the problem:

1. I repeatedly restarted the unit as well as reset the unit (updating software) - to verify software update was not corrupted;

2. I reentered my credit card information in my apple account - to verify apple account;

3. I successfully tested my apple account via my computer to successfully purchase music via iTunes; to verify account was working with iTunes store;

4. I spent two hours with apple tech support (515876498) to go thru 1-3 with no success - to obtain tech apple support;

5. I went to an apple store and had the unit directly connected to a computer to wipe it clean and update the software - a proscribed apple stretegy to address the problem;

6. I tested my apple id on the apple tv box in the store on the apple store network and continued to encounter the problem - to determine if my network at home might be the culprit. Apple store techs submitted the problem to their software support team thinking it was a sogtware glitch in the recent software upate, this was a week ago and still no answer.

7. I reviewed home network configurations - to ensure there were no firewall blocks.. yet if the problem existed in the Apple store, it would appear the problem is something else.

8. I connected the apply TV unit via ethernet to my home network - to test wifi versus direction connection.

9. I connected iTunes store support and they indicate that others are able to rent or pruchase movies after the softweare update.

I am currently stumpted as to what variable I have not tested to rectify this problem. I have to the best of my abilities tested hardware, software, network and account management settings.

The problem still persists.

Also have the same problem. I have also, restarted, reset, rebooted wifi, signed out etc. Netflix works. Hulu works. I can access all purchased content with iPad, and iPhone. Just not ATV. My problem started on Oct. 9, shortly after update. Talked to apple support on the 10th. For hours. Ultimately, they implied that we used it too much. And that we should be watching netflix from our DVD player instead. Supposedly they are sending us a new device. It hasn't shown up yet. We did however receive a box to put the Apple brick we have now. Fortunately, airplay is working well, and we are now watching all content through our iPad.

I remain (slightly) optimistic that. New device will perform better. Yes, I am Pollyanna like that. I am from the Pacific North West, so I don't it could be attributed to residing in Canada...eh?

I have the same problem with my Apple TV, in Australia.

I first noticed it just on 24 hours ago when trying to watch the same child’s movie I had successfully watched the night before. I also upgraded the firmware to v6 several (4~5) days earlier. So the problem didn’t present itself immediately.

Because of this, it leads me to think that Apple has made other changes with their DRM Authorisation servers, which has then exposed a bug in the Apple TV v6 update.

It seems there are two possible solutions, both of which lie with Apple.
- Revert the DRM Athorisation changes that were applied globally, which caused this issue.
- Issue a Software Update for Apple TV to fix the exposed bug.

Hope a fix comes soon otherwise I might take just have to take up the suggestion of my child and “Bin It”.

I agree with everyone it's a bloody pain... I don't live in the US anymore and therefore can't watch on Netflix or Hulu, but still use my US Itunes on my Apple TV and hence can't watch any of my purchases. The only work around at the moment is to download the show to my computer and then get my Apple TV box stream from my computer. The issue with his is you have to wait for the show to be downloaded first.

very ******.

I'm having similar problems with already purchased movies and TV shows (see discussion in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5440687?answerId=23398519022#23398519022).

However, I'm able to watch them in iTunes installed in my computer. That makes me come to the conclusion that the problem is the new Apple TV 6.0 OS.

There are only 2 ways to solve the problem:

1- Wait for Apple to correct the problem.

2- Downgrade the OS to an older one. Google for instructions.

Good luck!
