Q: Can not rent or purchase movies after 6.0 Apple TV update, what strategies have been used recently to successfuly rectify this problem?

I will provide a brief over view of what happened and what I have thus far tried:

I updated Apply TV software approximately two weeks ago based on a software update prompt.  Afterwards, I experienced varying problems: requests to enter my three digit secuty code for my credit card only to be asked to resubmit or an inability to have the unit access the itunes store to proceed to rent or purchase a movie - would be sent back to the original screen to rent or pruchase a specific movie.

The following strategies (with reasons or rationale) were used to reectify the problem:

1. I repeatedly restarted the unit as well as reset the unit (updating software) - to verify software update was not corrupted;

2. I reentered my credit card information in my apple account - to verify apple account;

3. I successfully tested my apple account via my computer to successfully purchase music via iTunes; to verify account was working with iTunes store;

4. I spent two hours with apple tech support (515876498) to go thru 1-3 with no success - to obtain tech apple support;

5. I went to an apple store and had the unit directly connected to a computer to wipe it clean and update the software - a proscribed apple stretegy to address the problem;

6. I tested my apple id on the apple tv box in the store on the apple store network and continued to encounter the problem - to determine if my network at home might be the culprit.  Apple store techs submitted the problem to their software support team thinking it was a sogtware glitch in the recent software upate, this was a week ago and still no answer.

7. I reviewed home network configurations - to ensure there were no firewall blocks.. yet if the problem existed in the Apple store, it would appear the problem is something else.

8. I connected the apply TV unit via ethernet to my home network - to test wifi versus direction connection.

9. I connected iTunes store support and they indicate that others are able to rent or pruchase movies after the softweare update.

I am currently stumpted as to what variable I have not tested to rectify this problem.  I have to the best of my abilities tested hardware, software, network and account management settings.

The problem still persists.

    I seem to find the problem lies with the apple tv box because i can access my purchased music, movies and tv shows from my ipad, iphone and imac. But when using my apple tv box it wont allow me to access any of my purcased music, movies and tv shows. I have tried changing my regional setting but atill no avail.

    Same problem here - I live in Germany. Strange thing is, that this only affects my 3rd Generation Apple TV. My 2nd Generation Apple TV is still doing good.

    I did everything, resetting with Itunes, changing routers, changing IPs - nothing helped. When the Apple TV is freshly resetted I can watch exactly 1 movie or series and thats it.

    Until apple resolves the issue there is an alternative way to watch your itunes content. If my computer is on with itunes open on the pc which has permission...Then on the apple TV, I can access all of my iTunes shows from the Computers Tab as long as the content was downloaded onto the computer. Still, apple needs to get to the solution sooner than later!

    ghosty89:

    Based on my conversation with two Apple tech reps today, they are aware of the various related problems associated with accessing video content via the Apply TV box to the iTunes Store and the occassional associated error of not accepting the security code related to one's credeit card in the Apple account.  I was told that a software update will be forthcoming and you may see a prompt for a new software update.

    That is an interesting twist - it works for one account and not for the other.  In other situations, it works for one Apple TV box and not for another.

    It appears that Apple has a challenge that hopefully they can overcome.  Since they wish to control their hardware and software technology, I hope they bolster their software update testing protocol to avoid future situations like this.

    Let us keep our fingers crossed - looks like Apple needs "this help".

    I too am having this issue in the USA. Purchased movies will play on my Mac but not Apple TV. I will stay tuned for a software update or fix.

    ATV 3 - all was running fine til last night, finished watching a cached tv program and tried to play the next episode and the load screen jumped back to the previous page after a few seconds. A restore resulted in a show loading but when I forced a reload in 720 rather than 1080 it jumped back the previous screen.

    Suddenly I don't feel so lonely. Or "lost in the woods". (Canadian). I'll wait for the update.  Thanks all.

    I tried the suggestions mentioned earlier in this thread. Signed out of my account on Apple TV (v2) and back in, deauthorized iTunes on my Mac and then reauthorized it. Turned TV off and back on, slept Apple TV (v2) then tried again to no avail. Tried different hi def cable. Something happened between Oct 13 and Oct 14 specifically with Apple TV software.

    Tv purchases are playing back now on my ATV3, following a second attempted restore. The 2nd restore itself failed (prompt was something like 'restore can't be done at this time'), however playing back purchases has resumed- I've watched a 60 min show plus the start of another. And its caching quicker than before.
