Calendar in iOS 7 is aweful. I know no one who likes it. Is there any way to get the old calendar function back as an option?

Calendar in iOS 7 is terrible. Everyone I know hates it. Is there any way to get the old calendar back, even as an option? Is there a third party calendar app that is like the old iOS 6 calendar that I can download and install?

If iOS 7 calendar is "far better," it is still not good enought for you to use. Thank you for the suggestion for a $4.99 app, but the iOS 6 calendar fuction was perfect for me. I don't think the iOS 7 celendar is better. In fact everyone I know believes the iOS 7 calendar is far worse and not nearly as convenient and we all would like to be able to get the "old" calendar function back.

No, that is because I got used to Fantastical which I purchased long before iOS 7 came out as I didn't like the previous incarnations of Calendar. The calendar on iDevices have long received fair to middling reviews and you can search for many posts here prior to iOS 7 where people asked for calendar alternatives. The people I have talked to only have an objection to the red font once they tried the new calendar.

The old one isn't coming back but you can send Apple feed back about specific problems you have with the current version of calendar: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

I have used the new calendar and the red font doesn't bother me. I'm not sure what is "not nearly as convenient".

In the old monthly view you were able to see all your appointments on a given day for every day in the month. In the current view, you only have a dot to indicate you have something on that day. You then have to go to another view to see what that is for that day. You do not get a sense of how busy the week or the month may be. Being able to see everything within the monthly view allowed you to better schedule appointments because you were able to see how busy any a particular day was just from the monthy view.

And yet, I can still see all of the events I need in far less time than it took you to type all of that. Serious, in one tap you can see a complete list of all events sorted adn grouped by day/time), or see a day's events in a journal view. ONE TAP. How is that inconvenient?

In the old view, you did not need ANY taps to see either the schedule for the day or the schedule for the month. How's that not convenient? Now you have to tap to see the day ... but it opens only at the time you open it. You then have to scroll down to see what your schedule is for the afternoon and evening. When you tap to see the list of events, it does not show you spacially when in the week or weekend you have your events. You cannot see how busy a week or weekend may be ... you now have to compute it from the list of data. Especially when you travel, it was great to see where you were in the week. Visually you saw much more information which allowed for easier planning and much less "computing."

In the old monthly view, you were able to "see" when a birthday was. You could see it was a week away, or 10 days away, or at the end of the week. Now you have to go to the list and scroll down, search for the event, check the date and compute how many days until the event. Wasn't just seeing it much more efficient than tapping, scrolling, searching, and then computing?

We must agree to disagree. You like scrolling through LISTS "grouped and sorted by day." I much preferred looking at the entire month on the screen and seeing where everything fit in the month. I truly believe the full month view with info rather than just a dot is preferable to lists. That's why I would love for Apple to give us the option for the calendar we had last month and which many of us most prefer.

They have given you an option. It's called the App Store. Apps that people have said made them happier than the built in calendar include the above mentioned Fantastical, Tempo, Week Cal and, my current favorite, Cal. I've used all of those mentioned and everyone of them is better than the very basic app Apple included on iOS 6 or 7. However, there are hundreds more if those don't meet your needs.

Best of luck.
