How do I prevent my iphone calendar from syncing with my work calendar?

I like that my calendar on my iPhone syncs with my work outlook calendar at work because it tells me when I have meetings coming up and stuff. But sometimes I have private appoints such as hair cuts that I want to put into my phone but I don't want these to sync to my work calendar that is available to my whole company. How do I control what events sync and what events don't sync?
