Ipod Battery Life Lasting No More Than 20 Mins

Battery Life lasts no more than 20 minutes from full to drained, it is possible that i am overcharging my IPod? I have not updated to IOS 7 as of yet as i fear the risk of losing all of my messages... Is there any sort of solution? whether i'm using the IPod or not the battery still reduces ridiculously so, and, the IPod is just over a year old. Whether i charge from a Dock, the included USB wire or my Wall Charger.

Try:

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup. The iPod willbe updated See:

iOS: How to back up

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
