When I connect my iPad to my TV, why is there no picture? Only sound.

Hi there community:

I have an ipad mini and I currently live in Bermuda. My brother in law has a slingbox attached to his house in Fresno. I can login to his slingbox account on my ipad and watch his TV. However, when I connect the ipad to my TV with an HDMI cable and iPad connector that I got from the apple store, the picture does not input up to my TV. The sound is going through my TV no problem but no picture. Any suggestions as to how I migth remedy the situation? I'd love to slingbox the sports from not only my ipad but also to my TV in time for baseball playoffs on a bigger screen!

When I use other apps like the ABC.com channels app, the picture goes up fine so I was thinking maybe it's a settings issue I"m not aware of? Hopefully not a slingbox blocking thing!
