I have an uptodate AppleTV and an iTunes a/c, can I source online content from my MacBook running OS10.8.5?

I have a MacBook with OS 10.8.5 and an Apple TV uptodate. How do I show material from my desktop via the Apple TV. The ATV shows it recognises my wireless LAN but I can't see what needs to be done from there. Any Suggestions?
