    Reset the device:

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

No data is lost due to a reset.

She was referring to an iPhone or iPad. I've no idea how one resets iMessaging on a MacBookPro but if someone out there does, that'd be great because the last time it synced messages was August 1. It's now the 12, and it won't send or receive on my MBP...

I know this is older but i just recently ran into this problem myself. to get imessage to update to a mac you need to go to the settings app on iphone, go to messages, scroll to where you see text message forwarding and if your mac is asscociated with the apple ID that is on your iphone.

then it will show up with a switch next to it.  simply slide the switch to the on postion and your mac will pop up with some numbers to type on your phone. that causes the mac to then get updates from imessage so you can text from your macbook pro.

this is from my experience on OSX yosemite 10.10.3 and ios 8.3
