Apple tv will not play purchased movies

Hello,

My Apple TV, as of last night, decided to stop playing movies I have already purchased. I spent an hour trying to trouble shoot the issue myself with no luck. Everything else seems to work as it should, Netflix streams perfectly, even the previews to any movie, including the ones I have purchased. When I select the play option of a puchased movie it will authenticate if needed, then go to the loading screen as if its going to start playing. A couple second will go by, anticipating the movies timeline will pop up and the movie to start playing, it will just kick me back out to the movies cover screen (screen with the movie I want to watch with its preview, play, and more.. buttons).

Somehow it feels the link between my account and the movies ive purchace is broken... apple obviously knows ive purchased them since they are in my purchased bin... I just cant watch them. Furstrating... Im not going to spend $10 bucks on a movie to see if the newly purchased movie will work either.

Things I have tried:

• Restarting Apple TV – not solved

• logging out and back into my itunes accountnot solved

• Restarting unit to factory settings, installation of newest software w/ reconfig of network settings, logging back into itunes account not solved

Any help would be appreciated.

• Apple TV

• Modle: MD199LL/A

• Software: 6.0(6646.65)

• Full Signal Strength with network

• Internet works perfectly fine

Thanks

I just went ahead and checked it again. I verified that indeed the location, regional, and time zone are all correct for my location. It prompted me to also log back into my itunes account. Before i did this check i attempted to play The Avengers, which did get past authentication and actually started playing. So i then tried The Little Mermaid, which did not work. I checked the settings above and then went back in and tried Blues Brothers, same problem. So while it may be working for others and seemed to work for at least one of my movies, it is not working for the majority. Blues Brothers and Lord of the Rings are both SD movies and Little Mermaid is HD. It doesn't seem to matter.

I have the same problem here with a client's AppleTVs (multiple - all updated firmware this past week). I did everything you did, including logging in with another iTunes account. Best I could get was loading one movie after a factory reset. No additonal movies will play with either account. Worked fine up until last week. Also switching between ethernet and wireless; no difference.

Everything network wise is identical to the way it was before the issue started. There have been no changes whatsoever and internet connectivity is not at issue. Everything else on the apple tv is functional, i can even run the connectivity test and have it pass, though it seems much slower to complete than it should.

iTunes Radio works, previews work, trailers work, etc. The only thing that doesnt seem to want to work are Movies and Television.

Then I'm not really sure what to suggest. Not sure connectivity is the problem if everything else works, although I wasn't aware that you actually got a result, but rather the results were just sent to Apple. It's odd that the majority of users reporting this issue over the last few days, now seem to have it all working again.

I'm not being picky, but "Everything network wise is identical to the way it was before the issue started" isn't the same as ensuring the location, region and time zone are correct. I'm somewhat assuming they are, but it's about all I can think of now. Also have you tried logging out and back in recently.

Try AirPlaying a purchased movie that you don't have on one of your mobile devices from that mobile device. The new software has a new feature where instead of AirPlaying it from the device, the Apple TV will download it from the Internet instead. You should see it start to load and authorise on your device, it should then start to load and authorise on the Apple TV too.

I live in Australia and my Apple TV is having the same issue. I have done everything "holden21" has suggested too and had no luck. My movies have been downloaded or copied from DVD from and added to iTunes and has played flawlessly until recently.

No network issues, no problems playing on movies through iTunes on my iMac, the region setting was set for Cuppertino so I changed it but the problem was not fixed.

I restart the device - a TV show will load or sometimes a movie but if I try to load a second movie it won't stream.

Streaming from an iPhone or iPad can sometimes work but not everytime.
