iPhone 5S blue screen of death - Reboot loop!

Got my iPhone 5S on launch day and had no problems with it at all until today when I picked it up, went to unlock it but had a black screen as if the phone was switched off. I powered it on to get the Apple logo then the spinning loading wheel and then the blue screen of death before it rebooted again. I am now stuck in a constant loop of blue screen and restarts.

Evrything I have read relates to iWork apps but I do not use any of the iWork apps and do not have any of them on my phone. I also do no back up through iCloud, I back up to my computer.

I called Apple Support (UK) who suggested I restore through itunes. I attempted that but it said the software install would take 30 minutes. It did go through as the phone obviously drops out of itunes when it reboots every 5 minutes. The Apple guy said he would call me back at 3pm. Its now 3.20pm.

I don't know what to do!

Hi BigJimmy D,

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.

If you still need to restore the iPhone, I'd suggest trying this step (#6) from our iPhone hardware troubleshooting article:

iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting

Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off

  • Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
  • If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.

Regards,

Jeremy

Dear Jeremy,

I've had the same issue as BigJimmy, and I've taken your advice. In my case iTunes restore solved my problem.

My case shortly:

After using Spotify, I closed the App, unplugged the headphones, everything went OK. I made my phone sleep, and about10 minutes later, the whole display was black. I could not do anything with it (but the SIM card was on, it still got signal, because I called myself...strange) but do a reset, when the phone went to a - sometimes blue screen, sometimes simple black screen - boot loop.

After connecting to iTunes, I clicked on restore, it helped.

I hope Apple will solve this boot loop issue soon, because it still concerns me (my phone is crucial for my work, it has to be reliable).
