I'm having a similar issue with my early 2011 17 in MacBook Pro. Is this a known problem with this model as well?
Just recently my screen has been intermittently going black and I have to press the power button several times for the screen to display again. It seems to happen at random.
MacBook Pro (17-inch Early 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)
